Accessory Note 12

ORD.3 Optical Rotary Dispersion Accessory

Optical Rotary Dispersion is a measure of the rotation in the plane of linearly polarised by the sample. In effect, it is a measure of the difference in refractive indices of the sample for left and right circularly polarised light. Chirascan’s ORD.3 accessory enables measurements of ORD spectra: a dedicated high gain photomultiplier detector tuned to twice the PEM modulation frequency replaces the standard CD detector and a calcite polariser is mounted inside the sample chamber.
