Applied Photophysics is a leading provider of systems and accessories for the biophysical characterization of biomolecules. Headquartered in Leatherhead, Surrey, UK, the Company has been established for more than 40 years.


Applied Photophysics is a growing UK-based company looking to recruit a product manager. The product manager is the key person in deciding product offerings, marketing, and the development road map. An excellent understanding of both the customer's needs and the instrumental offering is required so the voice of the customer is strongly recognised and realised in current and future products. As a result of business success Applied Photophysics is looking for a product manager for the innovations and Protein Stable product lines. Innovation products are new offerings within the Applied Photophysics and Protein Stable portfolios, with the product manager having accountability to ensure they meet customer's needs, and they offer a competitive solution. As the role is product management, travel will be needed approximately 25% to support the customers, existing and new, primarily to maintain an understanding of customer requirements and product vision. Although the role is home-based, offering flexibility, the successful candidate will also need to be able to support the development process, and therefore will be required to be at the Leatherhead office regularly.  The role is primarily marketing but by very nature, the product manager must have a deep understanding of the instruments and the market space. A PhD is required and ideally a support qualification in marketing e.g., a CIM. This is an exciting new role and one that will shape the direction of the Protein Stable and APL future.  The product manager must be able to work and deliver to deadlines, proactively recognise the business needs, and drive new commercial marketing material.


  • Drive new sales through technical knowledge of instrumentation.

  • Manage Innovations and Protein Stable

  • Maintain contact with the install base

  • Act as the customer voice for new developments

  • Contribute to the creation and drive new commercial technical material

  • Proactively engage customers and promote technical features

  • Take accountability of assigned products and development


Essential skills and experience:

  • PhD in a relevant subject
  • Supporting marketing qualification
  • Willingness to travel approx. 25%
  • Full driving license
  • Excellent communicator and listening skills
